Get to Know the Sport: When you have to shoot sports, you need to know every detail about it. It’s all about action which needs an interpretation and prediction about it. Therefore, you need to have a steady and an instinctive understanding about the sport to shoot well. You need to keep an eye over defense as well as attack, so as to capture every active movement. Analyze the situation, plan accordingly and shoot.
Soccer, hockey, tennis, cricket, golf, wrestling, and racing: it’s all the same. All it needs research and dedication for a perfect shot.

Tell a Story: Sometimes, the sportsmanship of an athlete is so inspiring that it can be captured to tell a story. It might be on their personal grounds or might be on the field. Field photography happens to be the authentic sports photography where the real story of the game can be narrated.
For this, the knowledge and anticipation about the sports are vital. An attention is required to be paid at the whole stadium. Maybe there’s a fan who has dressed and incorporated himself in the form of his favorite athlete and therefore, he can be captured. A coach motivating his team can be captured. The fire in the eyes of an athlete can be put into a frame. You should be prepared with the list of your shots so as to apply the same whenever you get a chance.

Mostly it’s about Athlete’s Face: Faces personalizes and customizes the feature of humanism in every photograph. This can easily connect a viewer with the photograph and let him anticipate that what can be the possible action in the field. There are many professional shots which are without the faces of the athletes but consider the fact that most of the viewers prefer to see these pictures with faces.

Use High ISO: ISO is one of the most important settings amongst the three settings on a camera that is used to take an exposed photograph. The other two are Aperture and Shutter Speed.
The lower the number of ISO is; lower is the sensitivity of the snap. A higher number of ISO makes your sensor becomes more sensitive to the light which allows you to use your camera in darker situations.
Raising the number of ISO on your camera will allow you to shoot at a higher shutter speed which gives a photographer a better chance of getting the perfect shot.

Use a Fast Shutter Speed: To capture the quick moving speeds of the athletes, you need to ensure the speed of your camera shutter. Professional photographers use 1/1000th of the second to capture the moment. You may at least go for 1/500th of the second as your shutter speed and try not to go below this.

Fast Auto-Focus and Burst Mode: In order to keep your camera with the pace of fast movements of the sport, there’s a continuous requirement of focus on your subject. Also, you need to prepare your camera to take multiple images which are generally known as frames per second or burst. You need to maintain the settings of both in your camera so as to ensure good photographs in your gallery.

Be your own Critics: Sometimes, more than action; you need to pay your attention towards the focus that you need to maintain in your shot. You captured a great catch of the ball, but either the ball is blurry or your flying cricketer, this shot won’t be recommendable. There’s a possibility where the ball covers the face of the footballer which makes a photograph imperfect.
The earlier you realize that how imperfect your photographs are, sooner you will realize that what the same lacks and what tips you need to implement so as to improve the quality of your pictures.
